Growing Your Business

Getting listed on 20+ UK directories

Directory listings ("citations") are one of the strongest signals for local Google rankings. We've pre-filled your details for every major one.

Google ranks businesses higher when it sees them mentioned consistently across the web. Directory listings — "citations" in SEO speak — are one of the most reliable ways to build that.

How to use the Directory Submission Assistant

  1. Go to Tools → Directory Submission Assistant in your dashboard.
  2. Your details are already pre-filled — name, phone, email, website, category, location, and a description.
  3. Click Copy All Details (or copy individual fields).
  4. Click Submit next to a directory — it opens that directory's signup page in a new tab.
  5. Paste your details, complete the signup, done. Each one takes about 5 minutes.

Start with the Essentials

Tackle these three first — they have the biggest impact:

  1. Google Business Profile — appears in Google Maps and local search. The single most important listing.
  2. Bing Places — can import directly from Google Business Profile in one click.
  3. Apple Business Connect — shows your business on Apple Maps and Siri search.

Then the High priority ones

Yell.com, FreeIndex, Yelp UK, Thomson Local. These have high domain authority, so a backlink from them genuinely helps your Google rankings.

Then the Medium priority ones

Cylex UK, Scoot, 192.com, Hotfrog. Lower individually but they compound. Aim to be listed on all 20+ within your first month.

Why this works

Google's algorithm cross-references your business details across the web. When your name, address, and phone number match consistently on 20+ trusted directories, Google trusts that you're a real, legitimate business — and ranks you higher than competitors who haven't done this.

It's the closest thing to free SEO that exists for local trade businesses.
